Re: Was there life before the Big Bang
I've already said (though I don't think here) that prior to the BB could've been almost anything
All the BB was was the start of this current era of the universe. There could've been any number of eras or things or nothings before it.
And one of those eras could've had life in it

I heard you i think that was on JMANEP (Jurassic Universe )
but anyway, im moving this to Science section, put it in the wrong place lol.

No, the big bang, we are assuming, definitely happened. Discuss if there where multiple big bangs, is what we sayin

No.Clonehunter wrote:Dont you mean if the Big Bang happened
Based on all the evidence we have availible we are pretty certain the big bang happened.
I think you're disagreement stems from a misconception. BBT isn't about the origin of the universe. It only states that "the universe used to be very hot and very dense" (somewhat simplified)
We can tell this because the universe is expanding. It follows that at some point it was closer together.
This in turn has been confirmed through redshift etc.

Re: Was there life before the Big Bang
Heh, heh, heh. It's funny that this is in Science, because there is absolutely no evidence for the Big Bang. And for you who say that there could've been many eras before the Big Bang, prove it. You can't prove it because it didn't happen. When the "Big Bang Theory" was produced, 'THEY' said that whatever exploded was huge, I don't remember the exact number but it was some million light-years across. Then they shrank it down to a few billion miles, and it kept getting smaller, and smaller, until they were saying that it was NOTHING. That was actually fairly recent, someone said that Nothing exploded. There was a big bang of nothing. nothing. nothing. nothing.

Whilst you are correct in deducing that the 'eras' conjectures is just that; conjecture (since we can't go beyond the plank time all that remains is for us to hypothesise as to what went before. Whilst some ideas have a grounding in reality, they cannot be confirmed and so remain conjecture) I must take that credit away for the rest of it, which stems from a mixture of ignorance (either wilful or indoctrinated, I don't really care) and strawman
If you read my previous post then you would notice your criticisms are unfounded (especially when you remember that one of your criticisms is that it changed with the evidence.... ). Whilst I will admit I glossed over some of the finer points (since BBT isn't actually the focus of this topic) I will happily elaborate on it for you if you can a) define BBT and b) show which parts you want elaborating in my previous post and why

Back on topic: if determinism is true, could this be the nth time this topic has been made as the starting conditions of the universe are on a loop?

Re: Was there life before the Big Bang
anyways... if the Big Bang DID happen, i think it is possible there was. When everything shrunk into its dot they all got killed. If our universe begins to contract agiuan, we will all be killed be too.

Re: Was there life before the Big Bang
What do you mean "you think it was possible;" you just said "if it did happen."
And how would the universe contract again?

By the time this happens again, the human race will most likely be gone. The earth may change so drastically by the time that that happens, that we would not be able to adapt
UNLESS
We take an evolutionary turn, and start to adapt to a weak o-zone.
\What do you mean "you think it was possible;" you just said "if it did happen."

It was on the Science channel.
Our universe is ultimately getting bigger, which means, 20 million years ago, it was smaller.
If we went back far enough, the universe would be the size of 1 millionth of an atom, proving that the universe did not start by an explosion, but by an implosion. (and since i hate the phrase "scientists say", i will use the phrase "some scientists say") Some scientists believe that the universe, at one point, imploded, grew, grew grew grew, imploded, (2nd big bang) and its in an ultimate loop...Wich actually fits some ancient drawings of the world getting bigger....and bigger... then exploding....then a new planed growing, which was a drawing found in Ancient Aztec lands long before they even got there.

Re: Was there life before the Big Bang
I think the point is that if it did contract and we all died, when it expanded again would it expand the same way, and form earth all over again?Clonehunter wrote:anyways... if the Big Bang DID happen, i think it is possible there was. I'm not sure on the exact physics, but its something to do with the gravitational force outweighing the expanding force as the expanding force decreases (as its energy is used up), causing everything to come back together againAnd how would the universe contract again?
Also, I have no idea what RR is saying, but I did a google search and found this
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/astronomy/bigbang.html
The first section (what is the Big Bang theory) is a pretty good introduction to cosmology

Beats me, but it must of had to at some point for it to blow up agian. But if/when it contracts agian, or at least begins too, we in this generation willmost likely have all passed away hundreds of thousands years before that.

I see it fine to me.
And yes, lets get back on topic. I think that ultimately, the universe is just one of those things that has always been. Never Created, never destroyable. Just, there,.
