Prehistoric Park

Post  THE DINOSAUR MAN on Sun Sep 28, 2008 5:47 pm

There is something missing from our world: the amazing animals that Time has left behind.
But what if we could bring them back? What if extinction didn’t have to be forever?
We’re going back in time on a safari with a difference, as wildlife adventurer Nigel Marven plunges into prehistory to rescue creatures on the brink of extinction. His plan is to bring them back to the safety of the present, and give them a second chance.
Welcome to the Ultimate Wildlife Sanctuary! Welcome…to Prehistoric Park!

In this RPG, you play as an employee of Prehistoric Park: a veterinarian, a maintenance worker, an animal keeper, a security worker, or a ranger. Veterinarians care for sick or injured animals in the Vet Station(also called the Med Station or Med Depot). Maintenance workers repair fences, vehicles, and other machines in the park to make sure nothing goes wrong. Animal keepers tend to the actual animals, giving them fresh food and water and observing them for any faults. Security workers take care of unruly guests. They are armed with electroshock weapons such as tasers both in the case of violent guests and for escaped animals. Rangers are responsible for returning animals to their exhibits should they ever escape.
Weapons available in the park are, for the most part, nonlethal, consisting of water cannons mounted on trucks, netguns(for recapturing small animals, such as Microraptors), tranquilizer rifles, tranquilizer pistols, and SPAS-12 shotguns in the case of extreme emergency.
The Park is located in the scenic Rift Valley of Kenya in Africa, directly south of Lake Nakuru. The Park is cut off from the rest of the world by a twenty foot concrete wall, which is covered in special plaster to make it look nicer. The only way in or out of the park is one of the three park gates.
Please refer to the following maps:
NOTE: artificial lakes, security moats, maintenance buildings, water troughs, feeders, and the like are not shown on the maps, but ARE there. all images taken from Google Earth.
Prehistoric Park

This is a map of all the structures in Prehistoric Park thus far. For the sake of easier map reading, I have not included any icons or labels on this map. Refer to the below maps for what is actually included.
ORANGE LINES indicate roads. BLUE LINES indicate the borders of the aquarium. WHITE LINES indicate the walls of the paddocks, the borders of the park, and so on.

Visitor Compound

View a map of the Visitor Center! (many thanks to the JPL staff for the creation of this map and to Tyrannosaur for permission to use this map)
The veterinary building is where all the sick or injured animals are taken care of. New animals to the park, whether they come out of the portal or are bred in the park. This is also where orphaned or newly hatched animals will stay until they are big enough to be released into the park, sort of like a nursery. Small animals are kept in kennels in the main building, while larger animals are kept in the veterinary building. The animals helped here include a parksosaurus on a routine check-up, a stygimoloch with a broken foot, Rocco the teratorn after some serious injuries, and the various large carnivores after their many fights and problems. The Liliensternus was hatched here.
The "Birds of Mauritius" exhibit is where the broad-billed parrots and dodos are kept. A breeding program is in effect to repopulate Mauritius with these once extinct animals.
Crocodile Lake is where the group of Nile crocodiles lives. They were left behind when the park that was here before Prehistoric Park closed. The largest male is named Henry.

Veterinary Station/Paddock Pictures: [1] [2] [3] (pictures taken by me at San Diego Wild Animal Park)
For security reasons, the location of the time portal is kept hidden.
[size=24]Ranger Depot

The ranger station houses an emergency helicopter. It is used in the case that an animal actually escapes the park or if someone is so badly injured that they need to be rushed to the Nakuru hospital. It is a Bell 430 model and looks exactly like the helicopter in this picture, but with a camoflague motif.

There are also a number of Jeeps at the park. They are the main form of transportation for the rangers, keepers, and other employees.

Ornitholestes Paddock and Diplocaulus Exhibit
The Ornitholestes Paddock houses the park's very first resident, Oliver the Ornitholestes. A Diplocaulus was also found here after the expedition to Permian Texas.
This is where the diplocaulus is kept. It was originally found in Oliver's paddock adjacent to its new home. It came through an anomaly connecting to the Permian period and nearly died of dehydration. For a long while, it was kept in the vet station. Nigel recently moved it into its own enclosure. The diplocaulus exhibit differs from other enclosures because the wall surrounding it is low and made of concrete. There is an artificial pond in the enclosure.

Primary Aviary
This is a more detailed map of the Primary Aviary. It will be updated with time. The newest arrival is a Sordes.

Free-Range Paddock and Secondary Aviary
The Free-Range Paddock is a completely open paddock. Visitors can pay extra for a guided jeep tour into this paddock. The animals in this paddock are the didelphodons, dryosaurs, shuvuuia, titanosaurs, parasaurs, and hadrosaurs. After the breakout of the titanosaurs and a mass breakout that followed, a moat was built around the paddock so that the titanosaurs couldn't break out again.
The Secondary Aviary intended as a larger home for larger numbers and species of pterosaurs and other flying animals. Individuals and pairs of pterosaurs and other fliers will remain at the avairy, Rocco the teratorn and the lone Sordes, but actual flocks will live here, like the Eosipterus flock. Also included in this aviary are the pteranodons, Freefall and his mate.

Germanic Paddock
This is the home of the Draconyx herd, the Dracopelta, the Dacentrurus, the struthiosaurs, telmatosaurs, and magyarosaurs. They all come from areas in or around what is now Germany, hence the name. Since they are all herbivores, they are given this large, wooded area. The Draconyx were the first animals in the park to successfully breed. The dacentrurus is named Dann, and the dracopelta is Wyvern. The struthiosaurs, telmatosaurs, and magyarosaurs were recently integrated. These animals come from Cretaceous Romania.

Ornithomimus Paddock
This is where the Ornithomimus flock lives. These are the favorite animals of head keeper Bob. A clutch of eggs hatched months ago, but two eggs were rejected by the mother. However, Bob took the eggs and kept them in an incubator. They hatched, and now the two ornithomimus chicks follow him around everywhere. The two chicks are named Flotsam and Jetsam.
Now that Flotsam and Jetsam are older, Bob is trying to integrate them back into the flock, but there has been little success thus far.

Tyrannosaurus Paddock (also known as T-Rex Hill) and "Terrence's Hideaway" and Dilong Exhibit
These paddocks each house a different individual of the tyrannosaurid family at Prehistoric Park. Due to sibling squabbles that could have resulted in serious injury, Terrence (a T. rex) was moved into his own paddock across from T-Rex Hill. His sister, Matilda, remains in the original paddock. The smaller paddock at the fork in the road houses Bao, the very last of his kind found in prehistoric China. The exhibit is part brick building, like a shelter, and part wooden paddock like the others. Bao was put here since he and the tyrannosaurs are related.

Triceratops Paddock (also known as Triceratops Creek) and Mammoth Mount
Theo the Triceratops and the Protoceratops group live in the Ceratopsian Paddock. Theo has caused little trouble since his arrival in the park. The protoceratops share the paddock with Theo, and they get along well. The microceratops are kept in a special cage like what small monkeys would be kept in.
Indricothere Paddock and possibilities
This is where Gamin the indricothere is kept.
The "possibilities" area is where animals brought back later on could be kept.

The Staff

NOTE: the pictures shown here are of real people, and are only used here to give an idea as to what the different staff members look like. Characters are copyrighted property of their respective creators.
Also of note is that Prehistoric Park employees wear a distinct uniform: tan pants(long or short) and dark green shirt. While on time travel missions, employees wear whatever is appropriate. The ourfits in these pictures are NOT what employees generally wear while working.
Nigel Marven

Nigel is the Manager of Prehistoric Park and leader of the time travel expeditions. It was his dream to create a wildlife sanctuary for prehistoric animals. He got the idea immediately after hearing that time travel technology had been created. He received funding from the United States, the technology from China, and the land from Kenya. He has no favorite animal in the park, but if he is ever asked, he just says that he likes the Microraptors.
Nigel was born in England in 1960. When he was just eight, he was running a hamster colony. During his teen years, he began keeping larger animals, most notably a speckled caiman. He even once saved an eel from certain death, keeping it in his bathtub. During family vacations to the Mediterranean, Nigel went about the countryside, catching snakes and lizards so he could study and then release them. Later in life, Nigel met one of his heroes, David Attenborough, and went on to host many shows by the BBC and other companies, most notably Shark Week. These achievements all paled in comparison to Prehistoric Park, though. While Nigel is officially an ornithologist(scientist who studies birds), he also knows a lot about many other kinds of animals, including dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals.
Nigel is RP'd by THE DINOSAUR MAN.
Bob Arthur

Bob is the Head Keeper at Prehistoric Park. It's his job to make sure that all the new paddocks are constructed as well as to take care of the animals themselves. His favorite animals in the park are the ornithomimuses. In fact, he rescued two Ornithomimus eggs that had been rejected by their mother and hatched them in an incubator. After they hatched, the little hatchlings followed him everywhere. He named the two Flotsam and Jetsam. When something bad happens in the park, it's always Bob who has to pick up the pieces.

you get to choose the dinos.

Other animals at the park include:
1. Nile Crocodiles: nine of these reptiles inhabit a man-made lake near the visitor center. The largest one is a male named Henry.
2. African Elephants: a herd of six elephants lives in a pen near the visitor center. They are accompanied here by Martha the Mammoth. The herd has one baby.
3. storks, rats, and various small birds live wild in the area
4. African Cheetah: one cheetah lives in the park
5. Blue-and-Gold Macaws: two of these birds are owned by Nigel as pets and are kept in the primary aviary
6. Chameleon: one pet chameleon, owned by Nigel, lives in the park. It is kept in a cage in Nigel’s office.
7. Egyptian Banded Cobra: these live wild in the park, but only one has been found so far. It is kept in a glass exhibit in the visitor center.
8. Black Rhinoceros: these live wild in the area, but are rare. One attacked Nigel, but was overpowered by Theo the Triceratops. It is currently kept in containment with its prehistoric cousin, the Elasmotherium.
9. Baboons: a troop of these live wild in the area
10. Zebras: while not actually in the park, these animals live in the surrounding area
11. Frilled Sharks: several of these are kept in the visitor center aquarium
12. Coelacanths: several of these are kept in the visitor center aquarium
13. Nautili: several of these are kept in the visitor center aquarium
